The PSP 2000 was announced at the E3 festival in 2007. Consumers were made aware that the new release console would be slimmer and lighter than the original 1000 console, hence the PSP 2000’s other name, slim & lite. The console was released first in Hong Kong on 30th August 2007, with multiple releases on different dates through September 2007 in North America, Australia, South Korea and Europe. The console was finally discontinued in 2014 after a successful reign in the market.
